In 2004, after battling two incurable diseases, Marisa began to look for alternative treatments. She was recommended the book “Controlling Crohn’s Disease The Natural Way” by Virginia M. Harper, a story of a woman’s healing journey through the teachings of macrobiotics. Becoming inspired she said “I can do this too!” It’s been 5 years and Marisa is living a happy, symptom free life! Through her own experiences with healing she has been inspired to help others embrace their health and our abilities to heal. Marisa has held two local titles in the Miss America Organization: Miss Spirit of New York 2006 and Miss Jubilee 2007 and has placed in the top ten two years in the Miss New York State Pageant. Through these organizations she was able to continue to advocate her platform, Understanding Crohn’s Disease Through Lifestyle and Diet. Now she’s off to help you. Check out her upcoming cooking classes, pot-lucks, and lectures.

Marisa: Last night you said you used diet, massage and acupuncture to heal yourself. What kind of massage person did you see? Were they in NYC? Also can you tell more about the acupuncture and how that worked? Thanks. (I have digestive problems and have found no massage person or physical therapist who can address my problems.)
Hi Amina –
To better explain the neccessity of bodywork in addition to diet…we live in a society that throws our balance off. Most of our daily schedules involves very little down time, or self care time. Eating brown rice and veggies isn’t enough if you’re up at 6am and asleep after midnight, and you haven’t sat down all day.
Body work provides an opportunity for your nervous system to center, get your blood flowing fluidly and relax the organs. Mediations, or deep breathing can also be extremely beneficial. (and cheapest). They all put focus on the body to relax and release. That might be something to look into.
For digestive issues, it’s important to keep the blood flowing, so any type of movement is wonderful for the intestines. Yoga, Qi-gong, even a dance class are excellent for these areas. However if your intestines are very weak, careful on the strenuous excerises.
Additional types of bodywork (as you know) consists of acupuncture, shiatsu, cranial sacral massages, or even chiropractor all do the same things, release the body. Acupunture, they place very thin needles in areas of the body to stimulate energy points of specific organs, and overall being. I swear it doesn’t hurt. I used to go to an acupunturists in Staten Island. Most of my best people are in Nashville, TN. But if one isn’t working for you move on and try another. The important thing is it needs to make YOU feel good. I’ve recently meet something in NY who’s doing Shiatsu and Cranial Sacral Therapy. You can email me at macromarinelli@gmail.com and I can provide contact info. NYC is hard because these can get very pricey. I usually go for a regular shoulder massage weekly, it helps.
Hope this was more helpful.
