After the death of her mother, and witnessing the devastating effects of modern medical treatments for cancer, Andrea Beaman knew there had to be an alternative way to heal the body without destroying it in the process.
Andrea put that theory to the test when she was diagnosed with a debilitating thyroid disease. She altered her nutrient poor diet and used natural methods that promoted her health. With time and persistence she reclaimed her health and fully recovered without having to resort to a lifetime of costly prescription drugs.

I too avoided the costly medicine with better diet and no more plastic water bottles, macro food with lots of protein, and very little soy…
Now, much better and solid energy, too…
Andrea-You were awesome on the con call last eve! Very insightful & a boatload of help & inspiration to others! My question for you is why do you think your mother didnt recover with macrobiotics & what did you get from her journey that encouraged you to stay with macrobiotics?
thanks for all you do! Rock on
Hi Fern – That’s a great question. I believe that chemotherapy and radiation are poison to the body. After going through many rounds, I think my mom’s body was physically wiped out… and emotionally, her spirit was drained. It takes a strong body, mind and spirit to be able to bounce back from those destructive treatments and my mom was delicate and fragile. Also, I would have given her more animal protein and fat to help rebuild her bodily systems. Those foods are great builders and I believe they would have helped her greatly after the modern cancer therapies she went through.
What I got from my mom’s journey was a passion to learn about natural therapies and treatments, and to try them on my own body and then teach what I learn to people all around the world. I think there is something seriously amiss with our treatment of cancer and disease in modern society. We attack the body and destroy it, instead of support it with the things it needs to truly heal itself.
Today, I consider my eating to be “whole foods” with a base in Macrobiotics, TCM, American Indian wisdom and many other indigenous eating patterns. I have no fear of any food. I understand food and it’s effect on the body and I use it wisely. Life is delicious.
Thyroid disease is awful. I have Hashimoto’s Disease which I suffered from for many, many years and was nearly dead with it 10 months ago when I discovered macrobiotics from a friend. I am very fortunate today to have Denny Waxman to guide me through the process. I can’t believe the incredible difference in how I feel today by living a whole foods diet. I’m still a work in progress but now I know that complete recovery is only a short time away.
Hi,
I have hypothyroidism and have been taking synthroid for many years. A number of years ago I followed the macrobiotic diet for quite a few years and I am still conscious of what I should and should not eat, but I am not following it now. Do you think I could get off synthroid if I followed the macrobiotic diet? I am waiting for the results of a test to see if I am allergic to gluten. If I am it will be somewhat difficult to follow a gluten free macrobiotic diet. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so much
Thank you! Andrea and sponsors for sharing this info. I’m eager to get started coaching with Andrea ASAP;hopefully she received my e-mail inquiry last Fri. I’ve been following macrobiotic dietary guidelines since the late 80’s. Hopefully, I can get guidance to make the necessary adjustments to booost my low thyroid level and lower the high pituitary stimulating hormone level. My body elemental said “Aha” when increasing fat and animal protein was mentioned, and “hmmm” at decreasing (healthy) carbs. I hope to hear back from Andrea and her staff soon so I can get started. All the best to you!
I am a single mom with hypothyroidism and recently concluded radiation treatment (7 weeks) for breast cancer. I declined chemo. Which of your books would be best for me to get? I would love to be off synthroid. I eat a pretty healthy diet, mostly fruit, veggies, and fish I have always felt that there had to be a way to heal my thyroid. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.
Andrea you are inspirational. I was hyperthyroid & in & out of hospital with mental health problems. Eating a macrobiotic/whole food diet has helped me to stay on an even keel: I am no longer thrown around by ups & downs in my blood sugar. Over a period of time, this has enabled me to look at the emotional & spiritual & understand & address my mood swings. Now, my temperament is calm & I can actually grasp my potential as a person. The medical solution was to remove my thyroid (or part of it) with the likelihood of becoming hypothyroid & therefore never fully restoring my health & finding myself. So glad I found an alternative way without a life of medication or surgical intervention. Gilly Webber, UK
