Note from Host: Due to a mix-up Melody Gardot did not show up for the call and as we waited as host I, Phiya Kushi, took questions from callers. The session was partially recorded and is posted above. Afterward, Melody and I recorded her story which can be heard above. She may reschedule another call in the future.

Melody Gardot is a Grammy-nominated artist with multiple platinum albums. Her breakthrough album “My One And Only Thrill” which includes the songs ‘Baby I’m A Fool’ and ‘Who Will Comfort Me’ has already achieved Double Platinum status in France and Sweden where it reached No 1 in the album chart and was the best selling international album of 2009 in that market. The album is Platinum in Norway and Russia and Gold in the UK, Denmark, Poland, Greece and New Zealand, reached the top spot on Amazon.com’s sales chart in the US and No 1 on the iTunes charts in 8 other markets; in total My One And Only Thrill has sold 1 million copies globally.

When she was 19, Melody was hit by an SUV while riding her bicycle. Her injuries were extremely serious and left her unable to sit up for more than 10 minutes. She suffered short-term memory loss and acute sensitivity to light and sound. Her doctors perscribed a great deal of medication for everything from pain to nervous system disorders.

After about 11 months with little or no relief from pain and neurological issues, Melody became determined to find another way to solve those problems. By chance she discovered macrobiotics through a friend who let her borrow a book that talked about it. She was immediately intrigued and wanted to learn more. She purchased several books and began to read and cook for several hours a day.

Over time and together with musical therapy 90% of the problems she had prior to beginning macrobiotics were resolved. She used the experience as a springboard to musical success she might never have achieved otherwise.
